The story revolves around Major Vihaan Singh Shergill of the Indian Army, who leads a furtive operation against a group of militants who attacked a base in Uri, Kashmir, in 2016 and killed many soldiers. This film has won four National Awards, with Aditya Dhar who debuted as a director bagging the best director award, and Vicky Kaushal winning the award for the best actor. The film also won the best sound and the best music director award.

3. Haider

Vishal Bharadwaj skillfully churns the Shakespeare trilogy and adapts Hamlet and gives us this gem, Haider.  This unabashed story based on the socio-political scenario of Kashmir is priceless. The narrative is about Haider who must avenge his father’s death by killing his uncle who marries his mother. This film has won five National Awards and is one of the best performances by Shahid Kapoor. This film has won the best screenplay, the best music direction, the best choreography, the best costumes, and the best male playback singer. 4. Mom

Mom is a pivotal film that will send chills down your spine, the story is about Devki, a biology teacher, who seeks help from DK, a private detective, and vows to get revenge after her stepdaughter’s rapists are acquitted by the court. This movie was the last film of the legendary actress Sridevi. This movie has won two National Awards, Best Actress by Sridevi and best background score by AR Rehman, If you are looking to watch something meaningful, don’t miss this amazing film.

5. Shwaas

Shwaas is an extraordinary Marathi film by Sandeep Sawant. It revolves around a young boy who is suffering from retinoblastoma, retinal cancer, and can only survive after losing his eyesight. So, his grandfather endeavors to show him that life is beautiful in every form. Shwaas has won two National Awards. It bagged the best feature film and Ashwin Chitale who delivered an amazing performance won the best child actor. Watch out for this gem. It will make you shed a tear but it’s worth it.

6. Kanchivaram

This film by Priyadarshan is a beautiful film that revolves around Vengadam who promises to his newborn daughter that he will drape her in a silk sari on her wedding day. This action-packed Rajkumar Santoshi film revolves around Major Jaidev who saves a politician from the clutches of a dreaded terrorist. 8. Anumati

Anumati is a Marathi film that is based on, Ratnakar, an old man, who is devastated when he discovers that his wife is ill. He helplessly goes through a series of trials and tribulations in order to save his dying wife. Anumati directed by Gajendra Ahire displays a husband’s vulnerability and emotions of all the characters are in full raw display. Vikram Gokhale who plays Ratnakar has won a National Award for his performance in this beautiful film.

9. Rustom

Rustom Pavri (Akshay Kumar), an honourable officer of the Indian Navy shoots his friend, Vikram (Arjan Bajwa), to death after discovering that his wife, Cynthia (Ileana D’Cruz), had an affair with the rich businessman. The Commander surrenders himself to the Police immediately and admits to having killed Vikram but pleads ‘not guilty’ in court. Is he convicted or acquitted?
